The PCIe-Opto-Board offers a convenient way of connecting a custom hardware to a host PC with a high bandwidth, low latency link at a low price. The PCI Express x4 link with 10 Gbps bidirectional data rate connects to two SFP slots through the Altera Cyclone IV GX FPGA and the 3.25Gbps links can be bundled or operated independently.
The FPGA enables the implementation of proprietary or standard protocols (for example Gigabit Ethernet, GigE). The af inventions PCIe-DMA-Engine IP-core can be used to connect the PCI Express interface to the external hardware using descriptor controlled scatter gather DMA engines.
The "low profile half-length" PCIe-Opto-Board is supplied from the PCI express slot connector, eliminating the need for an external power supply. The PCIe-Opto-Board is also availabe with industrial grade FPGA devices and an optional heat sink and a fan connector enables the operation in extended temperature ranges. The board has been proven in industrial applications and a Linux 64-bit GPL driver is available as well.
The board offers two digital I/O connectors for add-on boards and 3 FPGA controlled LEDs.
